Accompany me to the small mountain lake «Lai Blau» and be surprised by its charm. The Lai Blau is situated at over 2600 m above sea level, embedded in a breathtaking panorama. Enjoy the silence and treat yourself to a moment of peace and relaxation.
Hike Lai Blau
The idyllic mountain lake «Lai Blau» is situated above the village of Guarda and can be reached on foot in about four hours. The scenically varied circular hike leads from the authentic mountain village via Alp Suot and after an intensive and steep ascent to the destination: the Lai Blau.
When I heard about Lai Blau, I was immediately enthusiastic and knew that I wanted to visit this Begsee as soon as possible. I finally put the plan into action in September last year. In autumn the Engadine is especially beautiful, especially the golden coloured larches give the valley an extraordinary appearance.
I recommend not to turn left from the public car park into the village of Guarda, but to walk a short distance right along the road. After about 200 metres, you will reach the first hiking sign at the side of the path, which points in the direction of Alp Suot. The path initially leads through the woods before turning into a dirt track. You walk along the mountain stream "Clozza" for about two hours and can admire the varied nature before reaching Alp Suot.
First stop at Alp Suot
Before arriving at the alp, I was greeted by the curious goats and horses, who were allowed to stay here until late summer. This is the perfect place to make a first short stop before starting the ascent to Lai Blau. Enjoy the peace and quiet and the unique atmosphere of Alp Suot with a view of the Piz Buin.
The Lai Blue
From Alp Suot you walk along a pebble road until it leads to a stony and steeper path. After a somewhat more intensive ascent, which is well worth it, I reached Lai Blau in about two hours. Be sure to plan your lunch break here and if you are out on a warm summer's day, the lake provides a welcome cool-down. Over a green plain the descent towards Guarda begins. Here a wonderful mountain panorama opens up before reaching the Schellen-Ursli village after a two hour hike.
How to get there: By car (paid parking available) or by train / bus
Hike recommended for: Nature lovers, persistent people with good physical condition. A somewhat longer circular walk (duration as described above approx. six to seven hours) but very feasible for active people.
Equipment: Good shoes, sun cream and headgear, wind jacket
Recommended season: July, August, September and October
Highlight: Alp Suot, varied nature, varied paths, very beautiful panorama, the village Guarda
